Ways to Help with a New Baby

There are many ways to help with a new baby. You can rest assured that most parents appreciate even the smallest of gestures when it comes to an offer of assistance. So, why not make mom or dad's day? Follow through on any of these thoughtful suggestions. They're both easy to initiate and won't break the bank.

Don't Visit Empty-Handed

If your finances allow, never visit empty-handed. Gift mom or dad with something for the baby they really need. Yes, little outfits are adorable. But, they aren't as practical as a package of diapers or a few days worth of formula. Am I right?

On a smaller scale, consider bringing baby wipes instead. Wipes are obviously WAY less expensive than diapers and are uber-handy... in the nursery and all over the house.

Make Nap Time Possible

It's certainly no secret that the art of parenting is a joyous but tiring task. That being said, probably one of the best things you can do for your favorite new mom (or dad) is to give them the luxury of taking a well-deserved nap.

 

Give your friend or family member a "heads up" that you're on your way over specifically to babysit. Sometimes, just showing up at the door and announcing your intent will result in the the person insisting that no nap is needed.

 

Provide Meals or Cleaning Services

There aren't very many parents who wouldn't appreciate a home-cooked meal or a clean house. If you decide to prepare a meal or two, make sure to ask about any food sensitivities beforehand. They'll appreciate the gesture even further, if you include paper plates and plastic silverware. Less dishes to wash.

There are lots of ways to help with a new baby. These are just three of them. Just lending a listening ear is highly appreciated too. Remember, there's no need to spend money to be of assistance.

Top Tips on Healthy Sleeping for Children

Finding creative ways to get my kids to go to bed and sleep soundly through the night has always been an issue. When they stay up too late and then get up at the crack of dawn, they run out of gas in the afternoon and have challenges focusing at school. They are too tired to do their homework and they often fall behind on challenging subjects. It wasn't until I discovered a few simple tips on healthy sleeping for children that they regained their focus and actually got a more restful night sleep.

Avoiding Late Night Snacks

Snacks filled with sugar turn on the engines in children, getting their bodies to race instead of shutdown for the night. My children were still drinking soda and eating bowls of cereal right up until bedtime. I broke them of this habit by giving them healthier snacks like pumpkin seeds a few hours before bed. They were able to wind down as the night approached, sleep soundly through the night, and wake up refreshed each day. I noticed an instant improvement in their grades once we eliminated snacks and sodas from the late night menu.

Reducing Those Distractions

Its an idea to buy a nice childrens bed because when a child goes to bed, their mind and body are still in race mode, and any noises or distraction peak their curiosity and make it difficult for them to fall asleep. I bought them a nice kids bed from www.cutpricemattresses.co.uk, it helped them look forward to sleep time and help sidetrack them from all those distractions. Also I turn off the television in the living room and go watch it in my bedroom. It was further away from the kids room so they couldn't hear me giggling and laughing at the late-night show punchlines. I also purchased heavier bedroom curtains for the kids to block out lights and low noises from getting into their rooms to keep them from sleeping soundly. 

Living Off the Grid

Kids today are attached to their mobile devices from the time they wake up to bed time in many cases. They are usually playing video games, chatting with friends, surfing the internet, or listening to music, either on their phone or on some type of electrical device. Studies have shown that by engaging in these activities right before bed is very unhealthy because these activities cause the body to go into high alert mode. All the senses are alive and on standby, so falling asleep soon after is quite a challenge. I found that telling my kids to turn off their phones and shut down any electrical devices a few hours before bed actually put them in the perfect mode for falling asleep more rapidly.

When it comes to children, the sooner you can calm them down during the evening the better. I would focus on giving my kids healthier snacks that promoted a more restful nights sleep, while getting them to engage in activities that made them tired instead of hyper before bed. Reading a book, doing their homework, or just relaxing on the couch with their parents and watch show together all proved to have positive results in their sleeping.

Fennel Essential Oil #Review

Fennel essential oil is a galactogogue. This oil can play an important role for lactating mothers. It can increase the amount of milk in them by boosting production of a hormone called estrogen. This benefits the baby as well as the mother. This milk also inherits some of the carminative and digestive properties of fennel oil and protects the baby from flatulence, indigestion and gas, which are very common in infants.

For these reasons, I created a boobie butter. I combined the fennel oil with a combination of coconut oil and shea butter. I mixed 2 TBSP Shea butter and 2 TBSP coconut oil with 10 drops of Fennel Essential Oil. I started by whipping the shea butter and coconut oil together with my hand mixer. Then I gradually added the fennel oil to the base while continuing to whip it.

It has increased her milk supply as well as aided in preventing sore nipples.

Basil Essential Oil #Review

Basil essential oil is a great oil to have around the house. It has health benefits that include its ability to treat nausea, motion sickness, indigestion, constipation, respiratory problems, and diabetes. Basil oil is also a good source of Vitamin A, magnesium, potassium, iron, and calcium. It is also said to enhance the luster of dull-looking skin and hair. As a result, it is extensively used in many skin care supplements that claim to improve the tone of your skin. It is also commonly used to treat the symptoms of acne and other skin infections.

My Usage

So after researching and finding all this information, I decided to make a tomato basil soap. Basil essential oil has a slight herbal licorice smell. Even after making soap, the smell still came through. I was pleasantly surprised by the scent.

Tomato Basil Soap Recipe

Always run recipes through a lye calculator. You can also experiment with different oils if you want.

Coconut Oil		4.0oz	113.40g
Crisco		5.6oz	158.76g
Olive Oil		4.8oz	136.08g
Shea Butter		1.6oz	45.36g
Liquid     Water       Frozen Tomato Juice		2.0oz 4.0oz	57.36g 115.00g
Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)		2.17oz	61.50g
Total Soap Weight		24.25oz	687.46g

Mix the water and lye in a well ventilated area. Remember when mixing snow (lye) falls on the lake (water). Mix it slowly together with the frozen tomato juice in an ice water bath. Pour lye mixture into melted oils. Mix with stick blender until you reach a thin pudding like consistency (also called trace). Add 15-30 drops of Basil essential oil.  Mix a little longer if you want to make designs. If not, pour batter into your soap mold. I like a sturdy loaf mold but the options are almost endless. Never use an aluminum or metal pan though. Let sit for 24-48 hours. Cut into the slices you desire. Let cure 4-6 weeks

I'm back with another review. This one is for the kiddos or even teachers. Business first then I'll tell you about it from my pint of view. By the way, it is called Learning Success.

Information from the company:
The learning success program is a simple do-at-home program that will show you how to find the core problems and overcome them. Learning is made up of basic core skills. There are 16 of them in all. Typical learning difficulties are small weaknesses in a combination of two or three of these skills. Helps overcome learning difficulties such as:

• Dyslexia
• Dyscalculia
• Dysgraphia
• ADD/ADHD

Each of these terms simply means that there is a weakness in two or more of these basic learning skills. But it doesn't define which. Once you get started in the course you'll quickly find the trouble spots. Once you do that your child will be on the path to learning success. You will learn simple exercises that strengthen the skills needed for successful learning. Modern scientific breakthroughs have discovered a number of methods for overcoming these problems. Once you do your child will actually enjoy homework.

The normal price for this course is $564

The course is delivered via email. You will receive emails each day with exercises you simply print out and do with your child. Takes approximately 15 - 20 minutes 3-5 days per week. Results are typically seen starting at about 3 months but can come earlier. Severe problems will take approximately 1 year to overcome. We will continue delivering exercises for one year or until you cancel.

My Review:

So first of all, this is an email based program. That is actually awesome for me, because we have a tendency of misplacing papers. It is a daily delivery system so you don't have to go searching for old emails. Another plus.

Z doesn't have any learning disabilities that we know of but I thought it would be good to help him get ahead. I must say he is progressing nicely. I could see this being very useful for a kiddo with a learning disability or even to help a teacher who works with those types of students.
